The Impact of Advertising on the American Diet

Abstract

With ever increasing health problems related to diet in the U.S, including obesity, diabetes and heart problems, it is necessary to look at advertising as a potentially contributing factor. In order to understand this role, one needs to understand not only the rate of increase of these diseases, but also how advertising affects purchasing, how advertising has changed over time, and how these changes have altered perspectives and habits about eating. The research demonstrates that advertising allows people to eat without thinking about responsibility, which has led to a national health crisis.
